La Salle County (1,494 sq miles), located in south Texas, is at the center of development of the Eagle Ford Shale.  In La Salle County, the geology of the Eagle Ford varies and production includes varying amounts of oil, gas-condensate, wet gas, and dry gas. Generally, the northern half of the county produces more liquids and gas production increases as you move south.

Drilling in La Salle County is largely focused in the central and northern portions of the county.

La Salle County is a ranching community and is sparsely populated.  The two largest towns are Cotulla and Ecinal.  Cotulla serves as the county seat.  County services of interest to oil and gas lease owners include the La Salle County Clerk (property records) office and the La Salle County Appraisal District (tax collector) office.

  • EOG is most active in the north eastern part of the county where the Eagle Ford produces mostly oil.  Recent horizontal wells include EOG's Hoff Unit (Hoff Ranch) where the company drilled 7 wells that averaged 683 bopd and 391 mcfd and EOG's Naylor Jones leases where 2 wells averaged 873 bopd and 391 mcfd.

  • One of Petrohawk's core assets, the Hawkville Field, spreads across the south-central portion of LaSalle County and across the central portion of McMullen County, TX.  Petrohawk reports a typical gas well produces 8.5 mmcfd initially with estimated well resource of 5 Bcf and 207 mbbls of ngls.  Petrohawk reports typical gas-condensate wells that produce 5 mmcfd and 613 bblsd of condensate with estimated well size of 2.5 Bcf, 250 mbbls of ngls, and 195 mbbls of condensate.
