EOG filed a completion report with the Texas Railroad Commission in May that detailed a well test that produced over 8,600 boe/d from the Eagle Ford.

In a 24-hour test, EOG operated well produced 7,513 barrels of oil and 6.8 mmcf of natural gas.

The well is located 15 miles south of Gonzales just east of 183 on the Gonzales - DeWitt county line. The well was drilled to a measured depth of 17,364 ft. The measured depth includes a horizontal lateral of a little more than 5,300 ft.

At the time of the test, the well had already produced 40,121 barrels of oil. The well is situated on a 375.87 acre lease, so I'd say it's going to make for a happy royalty owner.

“UPDATE 08/07/2013 Details on the Burrow Unit 5H well were included in EOG’s second quarter earnings release. The announced IP was a little more than 9,200 boe/d from a long lateral (~7,500 ft). After 30 days, the well was producing 4,265 barrels of oil per day!”

The completion report included the following:

  • The well was tested for 24 hours on May 25, 2013
  • Choke size was 38/64ths
  • Casing pressure of 3,799 psi
  • 7,513 barrels of oil produced
  • 6,877 mcf of natural gas produced
  • 1,378 barrels of water produced

Well EUR In The Millions

This will be an interesting well to watch over the next year. If you assume the well produces 5,000 b/d of oil in the first month and has a decline rate of 75% in the first year, it will easily eclipse 1,000,000 million barrels of oil production. That's a million barrels in the first year!

If the decline rate is closer to 90% in the first year, the well will produce more than 700,000 barrels of oil and be on path to eclipse 1 million barrels of production in year two.

The Eagle Ford Shale drilling rig count grew by one to average 271 rigs over the past week. That equals the 2013 high from the first week in February.

Oil drilling levels hit a new record in the area with 241 rigs working. Expect activity to hold at this level and possibly go higher if oil prices stay above $100 per barrel.

The U.S. rig count is up 11 to 1,770, of which 845 are running in Texas. A total of 369 rigs are targeting natural gas and 1,395 are targeting oil in the U.S. The remainder are drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.).

Eagle Ford Oil & Gas Rigs

[ic-l]The natural gas rig count in the region fell four rigs to 30 running. Natural gas futures were trading near $3.79/mmbtu on Friday afternoon. The commodity has held in the $3.60-3.80 range for a few weeks now.

Six more or 241 oil rigs are running in the region this week. That's a new Eagle Ford record and represents an increase of more than 200 oil rigs since the beginning of 2011.  WTI prices have held well above $100 per barrel over the past two weeks. The oil benchmark was trading over $108/bbl on Friday. Eagle Ford light crude traded at $104.50/bbl on July 18th.

A total of 218 rigs are drilling horizontal wells and just 13 rigs are drilling true vertical wells. McMullen & Karnes counties lead development with 35 and 32 rigs running, respectively. See the full list of drilling by county below.

All land rigs and onshore rig data shown here are based upon industry estimates provided by the Baker Hughes Rig Count and/or Smith Service Co's (Schlumberger) Smith Rig Count.

Retail Workers Are Hard To Find In The Eagle Ford - Dallas Fed

The latest beige book from the Dallas Federal Reserve notes that finding retail workers in the Eagle Ford is becoming more difficult. The economist also highlighted rising commercial lending & real estate development.

“If you are looking for qualified workers, consider a listing on our Eagle Ford Jobs Board. Over 20,000 job seekers search here each month!”

The Federal Reserve Bank expects energy activity to increase in the second half of the year. Activity levels in South Texas and West Texas are expected to remain high as Gulf of Mexico activity increases.

There is difficulty finding workers across the state:

"Difficulty finding qualified workers became more widespread, with scattered reports among accounting, finance, single-family construction, auto sales, and primary metals manufacturing firms, as well as from retailers in the Eagle Ford Shale area."

Moderate growth in loan demand:

"Financial institutions experienced moderate growth in loan demand. Commercial real estate and transactions lending increased solidly, especially in oil and gas areas around the Eagle Ford Shale and West Texas."

Little change in energy, but growth expected:

"Energy activity was little changed at high levels. Global demand held steady, although there was some weakness from Mexico and Canada. Respondents expect improvement in energy activity in the second half of the year, due in part to anticipated increases in rig activity and production from the Gulf of Mexico."

Porter will deliver the Keynote Address at Shale EnviroSafe, the conference & exhibition focused on the environmental, health, safety, and regulatory considerations facing U.S. shale plays.  Commissioner Porter is scheduled to kick off the first day of Shale EnviroSafe, which will be held October 14-16 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX.

Porter was elected to serve a six-year term as Texas Railroad Commissioner in November 2010.  Since taking office, he’s created the Eagle Ford Shale Task Force to establish a forum that brings the community together and fosters a dialogue regarding drilling activities in the Eagle Ford Shale. In recognition of his foresight and leadership, Porter was named “Man of the Year” by the industry publication The Oil & Gas Year – Eagle Ford 2013.
